Paper 5 or Paper 6 practical-skills checklist
Confirm the student’s actual component with the school. Candidates take Paper 5 or Paper 6, not both.
Observation and measurement
- □ I record what I see or measure before naming an inference.
- □ I use suitable precision for the instrument.
- □ I distinguish raw and processed data.
- □ I retain repeats and identify anomalies transparently.
Tables and graphs
- □ Quantities and units appear in headings and axis labels.
- □ The independent variable is placed first and on the horizontal axis where appropriate.
- □ My scale uses the plotting area effectively.
- □ My line or curve matches the relationship rather than joining points mechanically.
Planning
- □ The independent variable has a useful range.
- □ The dependent variable is measurable.
- □ Every important control has a named action.
- □ The method includes quantities, repeats, safety and a conclusion rule.
Evaluation
- □ I state a specific limitation.
- □ I trace its effect through the measurement to the result.
- □ The improvement directly addresses the limitation.
- □ I do not claim that repeats automatically remove systematic bias.
